Evil Gima's Elements (Album Announcement), Play Artful Receives More Reviews, New Article on Getting Paid

Elements Album Cover, by Evil Gima

Announcing Elements by Experimental Band Evil Gima

Working with Jorge Martinez on Elements has been both rewarding and demanding.

We aimed to create experimental music with intention and symmetry, not just layered noise.

Somehow, we manage to push each other into stranger, more affecting places, sometimes unsettling, weird, magical, or blown-out.

We went for broke with this record. It helps to be bold in saying it: We want to create experimental music stops you in your chair.

Elements is our next iteration. We hope it moves something deep within you, as it did us.

Play Artful Receives A Bunch More Reviews

Queen City Sounds: The Double Headed Seagull Captures the Joy of Newly Sentient Communication on Ambient IDM Single “Play Artful”

[Play Artful] sounds like music boxes attained intelligence and learned to communicate with each other via electrical wires in on the process of communication in a collective, harmonious process in which every entity involved contributes to a dynamic sound that reflects a joyful spirit sustained for the track’s two minute and thirty-seven seconds run time. Tones pulse slowly, a background wave of low end comes to the foreground in pleasing pulses and the simple but jaunty percussive sounds buoy the energy of all the other elements for a net effect of a gentle momentum that feels like a completion of some kind of journey at the end and arriving at your destination at ease.

“Play Artful” is a reinvention of sound and memory, a work that transforms forgotten cassette fragments into a vibrant sonic canvas where experimentation meets playfulness. Mesmerized.io: The Double Headed Seagulls Shares Imaginative Album ‘Play Artful’

It’s an imaginative, cathartic record, one that requires a certain amount of effort and commitment from the listener. At times melancholic, at times calming, otherwise bittersweet: The Double Headed Seagulls has mastered the art of communicating through aural fragments and liminal soundscapes.

Radio Arminzen: The Double Headed Seagulls e a jornada lúdica e inovadora de "Play Artful"

The feeling is that of finding an old chest in the attic and discovering that the toys stored inside still work, but now speak a more complex and enchanting language… The jazz-like modulation of guitars converses with the ambient textures of synthesizers, creating a lo-fi IDM that is paradoxically both nostalgic and futuristic.

The first of the reviews have also officially arrived:

WeWriteAboutMusic: The Double Headed Seagulls soar with inventive precision on "Play Artful”

There’s also a cinematic quality to the work that embodies Wirth’s film composer background. Each piece feels like a scene in an unfolding dream, full of color and texture, each transition handled with an editor’s sense of pacing. Despite that polish, nothing feels too controlled. The music retains a looseness, a spontaneity that makes every detail feel discovered rather than engineered. You never really know where things are going, especially on “One Pot Screamer”, but collectively the whole record gives off the perfect experience.

Broken 8 Records: “The Double Headed Seagulls Soar with a Splash of Colour on 'Play Artful'“

This is no ordinary record. It’s an exercise in turning sound into sketches, tones into brushstrokes, and rhythm into unexpected shapes. Wirth folds together post-rock dynamics, lo-fi electronica, IDM patterns, experimental ambient layers, and the fluidity of jazz guitar to create something vibrant and exploratory. The result is an EP that feels like creative kids scribbling on the walls—messy, colorful, imaginative, and ultimately, delightful.

Dave Wirth uses his filmic instincts to draw us into shifting landscapes—sometimes chaotic, sometimes serene, but always captivating. The Double Headed Seagulls, with two albums under their belt so far, are set to release their third record in their 15+ years of music making. Play Artful can best be described as a lively combo of jazz guitar, ambient synths, and propulsive rhythms. Want it Now???

For those who want to grab the bull by the horn and get Play Artful today, you can do that at the Fire, Fire, Red Star Down Bandcamp page if you become a member. To sweeten the deal, I also offer a rare Double Headed Seagulls song Half An Hour Past Hanging Time for your listening pleasure. I invested a lot of energy into the 3D sound of this single, so I think it’s worth it. Plus, you’ll get a TON of other perks as a member. Go here if you’re interested in signing up (it’s affordable: $14/year).

Even better: Why not a couple of behind-the-scenes looks at the Ableton Live files? Yup. Those are included in the Bonus Edition, too…

What a joy! I was hanging with Maurice Moore a couple of days ago, and he told me more about this festival. Apparently, there’s only five feature films in this years Hollywood Black Film Festival, and Finding Solace is one of them. Holy crap!! Yes!!!

Best Original Music Score at Austin Film Fest, 2025

After the premiere of Finding Solace, Maurice Moore called up the cast and crew involved in making the film. I got up and stood with everyone. Maurice then basically spills the beans and says, “And congratulations to Dave Wirth for winning Best Original Score for Austin Action Film Festival!”

A confused 30 seconds later, when I figured that people were looking at me, I finally remembered to say thank you! Ha!

Sounds like it’s time for me to update my IMDb page:
